ObesityBody Mass Index* is a common measurement that relates weight to height. Individuals with a BMI of 25-29.9 are considered overweight while individuals with a BMI of 30 or greater are considered obese. According to the NIH Clinical Guidelines on the Identification, Evaluation and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in Adults, all adults who have a BMI of 25 or more are considered at risk for premature death. Research studies have shown that obesity increases the risk of developing a number of health conditions including Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, ischemic stroke, colon cancer, osteoarthritis and obstructive sleep apnea. *To find out your BMI, go to the link and enter your height and weight.
